On Thursday March 2nd 2006, 8 pm, Zoumboulakis Galleries presents the first solo exhibition of Kostas Christopoulos. The artist has collaborated with the gallery in the past, participating in the group show “Tetrachromia”, with three other young artists from Yiannis Psychopaedis’ workshop.
Kostas Christopoulos borrows images from the visible, the “real” world, using elements from the urban landscape, the mass media, nature and man. All the works are exclusively in black and white to resemble the shadow and reflection of another world, more real and more poetic, the truth of which we often refuse to confront.
The artist engages with the imagery of a shadow-theatre and translates it into a new, contemporary language.
Art historian Polyna Kosmadaki comments on the artist’s work: “Fragments of urban landscape, family memories and recent history, photographs left out of the family album, snapshots from TV, newspaper and magazine cuttings are drawn from the stream of information, that overwhelms everyday life today, and are manipulated with a technique similar to photomontage. The digital manipulation and the incorporation of the fragment into a new world order, render the origin of the individual parts indiscernible. The transition from the reproduced image-record to the unique object-work of art becomes decisive in terms of aesthetics as well as meaning.”
Brief Curriculum Vitae
Kostas Christopoulos was born in Athens in 1976. He studied in the Athens School of Fine Art under Yiannis Psychopaedis, from where he graduated in 2002. He has participated in a number of actions and group exhibitions and is also a member of artists’ groups.

Born in Athens in 1976. He studied painting and printmaking at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1996-2002) and completed the Master Course in Visual Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts at the same School (2006-2008).
