Zoumboulakis Galleries invite you to the new solo exhibition “The light line” by Christos Kechagioglou. Turning more and more to a more abstract form of painting, Kechagioglou, in his sixth solo exhibition at the gallery, depicts the ‘light’ itself. His works made in Athens and in his studio in Andros Island seek to render the Cyclades light “with its perpetual transformations upon the sea and the sky’ s vastness”.
Joseph Conrad in his book “The Shadow Line” writes: «I looked ahead, and in the still streak of very bright pale orange light I saw the land profiled flatly as if cut out of black paper and seeming to float on the water as light as cork. But the rising sun turned it into mere dark vapour, a doubtful, massive shadow trembling in the hot glare».
Kechagioglou, guided by the light, renders uniquely the atmosphere created in the sea and the sky during the day. His images enclose something almost metaphysical. They seem to lie at the borderline between the existing and the unreal, while reflecting intensely the observer’s state of mind.
