“y.st.rd”

Zoumboulakis Galleries present the third solo show “y.st.rd” by Kostas Christopoulos. The installation consists of mixed media paintings and sculptures.

The exhibition’s enigmatic title transcribes the artist’s reflective disposition. The title’s abbreviations have been chosen by Christopoulos from the word ‘yesterday’. The past (‘yesterday’) remains devoid of its properties. Memory and recollection become topos through the artistic procedure. Christopoulos composes his personal topography in order to construct his visual and conceptual map. The work of art transforms to an area of contemplation.

The works depict his quest on art and its history. Without revealing his references in an obvious manner, the visual artist explores his influences, alters his questions and re-determines his course. Notable, his monochrome landscapes are used as artistic comments and as declared attitude towards the dynasty of multicolor and the ultimate ‘Greek light’ of local art. Poles and candles in his sculpture installations betray the artist’s thoughts on the secularization of art and his imaginary dialogue with the works of the known folk artist Theophilos.
The exhibited composition forms an association net which provokes esthetic-related questions.
